But after Total Recall production company Carolco Pictures filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the project was reworked into a stand-alone project and started its development in 1997, after a script by Jon Cohen reached Spielberg and Cruise. The film was first optioned in 1992 as a sequel to another Dick adaptation, Total Recall (1990), with Arnold Schwarzenegger set to reprise his role as Doug Quaid. Spielberg characterized the story as "fifty percent character and fifty percent very complicated storytelling with layers and layers of murder mystery and plot". The film combines elements of tech noir, whodunit, thriller and science fiction genres, as well as a traditional chase film, as the main protagonist is accused of a crime he has not committed and becomes a fugitive. The cast stars Tom Cruise as Precrime Chief John Anderton, Colin Farrell as Department of Justice agent Danny Witwer, Samantha Morton as precog Agatha Lively, and Max von Sydow as Precrime director Lamar Burgess. and Northern Virginia in the year 2054, where Precrime, a specialized police department, apprehends criminals by use of foreknowledge provided by three psychics called " precogs". Dick story and turning it into just another cop show that considers nothing deeper than Lara's personal convictions, may be the greatest crime of all.Minority Report is a 2002 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg, loosely based on the 1956 short story " The Minority Report" by Philip K. That may be why there is little connection between the characters and, more importantly, why the they are not believable. Then it moved the action along without much character development. In the pilot, it felt like the show jumped into the action too fast, with little explanation of the backstory. Does she dare try to use his illegal talents to solve or prevent crimes?
